Ambassador Eng. Kijazi holds a Bachelor of Science, with Honours, in Civil Engineering from University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and a Masters of Science in Highway Engineering from Birmingham University, United Kingdom.

Brief History

Ambassador Eng. John W.H. Kijazi was appointed Chief Secretary to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania on 6 March 2016. Being Chief Secretary, Ambassador Eng. Kijazi also serves as Permanent Secretary to the President, Secretary to the Cabinet, and Secretary to the National Security Council. Prior his appointment, Ambassador Eng. Kijazi was Tanzania’s High Commissioner to India (from June 2007) and Singapore (from May 2013). Before assuming diplomatic responsibilities Ambassador Eng. Kijazi was posted briefly at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, where he held Special responsibilities. Ambassador, Eng. Kijazi career in Tanzania civil service began in 1982, whereby he held the following positions: Assistant Executive Engineer (1982 to 1986); Regional Engineer (1986 to 1996); Senior Road Maintenance Engineer (1996 to 1999); and Director of Regional Roads (1999 to 2002) in the Ministry of Public Works. Following his outstanding service, Ambassador Eng. Kijazi was appointed Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works (2002 to 2005) and later in the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (January to November 2006).
