Apiyo got his primary and secondary education in Rorya district, Mara region. In 1959 he joined the Makerere University in Uganda for undergraduate studies in Agriculture. In 1962 Apiyo got scholarship to the United States of America for study at the University of West Virginia whereby in 1963 he completed and awarded a Master Degree in Agriculture Science where he graduated in 1963.

Brief History

Timoth Apiyo is one of leader who served in the first phase presidency of Julius Kambarage Nyerere in 1974 to 1985. Mr. Timoth Apiyo, served in the Government of United Republic of Tanzania since early 1960s in many middle and senior positions. After graduating from Makerere University, he was posted to Ukiriguru College of Agriculture. In 1960 Apiyo got transfer to Muheza district in Tanga to be a district veterinary officer. He later he got transfer to Morogoro region to be Principal veterinary officer at Ilonga Agriculture Research Centre. In 1964 to 1965 Apiyo was posted to work at the Ministry of Agriculture and later he got transfer to be the Shinyanga Regional veterinary officer. Other position includes Director of planning at the Ministry of Agriculture in 1968, Permanent secretary at the Ministry of Land, Housing and Rural Development in 1969, Permanent secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture in 1969 and Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In 1974 President Julius Kambarage Nyerere appointed him to be the Permanent Secretary in the President’s office.
